Spanish football legend Iker Casillas received an exceptional trophy at yesterday's award ceremony.
The 36-year-old former Real Madrid goalkeeper was awarded the "Golden Foot" award. This prize is given to a player for outstanding career achievements - both individually and with the team. It also takes into account the personality of the footballer himself, and this award can only be received by footballers over the age of 28.
This award was first established in 2003 and back then it was presented to the legendary Roberto Baggio. Last year, Gianluigi Buffon received this award.
I. Casillas now plays for Porto, after saying goodbye to Real in the summer of 2015.
The veteran can certainly boast an impressive career - with Real, in a total of 16 seasons, the Spaniard won 19 trophies, including three UEFA Champions League titles.
His career with the Spanish national team was also impressive - I. Casillas was the long-time team captain, winning the European Championship twice in a row and triumphing in the World Cup in 2010.
I. Casillas triumphed over Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Arjen Robben, Thiago Silva, Andrea Pirlo, and other famous footballers in the fight for this award this year.
Muy feliz por el #GoldenFoot2017! Gracias a todos por el apoyo pic.twitter.com/rrPaZqcmdb
