Long-time Madrid "Real" goalkeeper Iker Casillas revealed the reasons why he decided to move to "Porto" and hinted that the separation from the "royal" club is no longer so painful.
The 34-year-old veteran, who is second in terms of appearances for "Los Blancos," was forced to leave the Spanish capital because the new team strategist, Rafa Benitez, decided to renew the goalkeeper position.
One of the reasons for the Spaniard's move to Portugal was the head coach of "Porto."
"I feel great confidence and admiration for Julen Lopetegui," Casillas told the official "Porto" magazine. "I had several offers, but they were not as attractive as 'Porto'.
"Also, I wanted to leave Spain. Moving to Porto is a way to forget Madrid's 'Real,' turn it into the past, and play for a club with which I feel a connection," the Spaniard concluded.
Last season, Casillas' new team in the Portuguese championship won silver, conceding the first place to Lisbon's "Benfica."
