Ivan Rakitic admits that the money that FC Barcelona had to pay for Philippe Coutinho is indeed significant, but he expects a substantial contribution from the new team member in any case.
The attacking midfielder cost the Catalans a whopping €160 million - making him the second most expensive footballer in history after Neymar. Kylian Mbappe will only surpass him officially by joining Paris Saint-Germain next summer.
Considering these transfers, Rakitic believes that Coutinho's price simply reflects the current market situation.
"My opinion is not important, but the price has become a bit high - it is dictated by the market," the Croatian told Marca.
"Every great player is welcome here. I congratulate the president and everyone who contributed to his arrival."
"Now he is a member of our family, we intend to enjoy him. Now he is at the biggest club in the world."
Upon arriving at the La Liga leaders, Coutinho, with Liverpool's armband, scored 12 goals and provided nine assists this season.
