The legendary Lithuanian sniper Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes that the French should have taken Karim Benzema to the World Cup.
The Real Madrid striker was not selected due to disagreements with coach Didier Deschamps, to whom, according to Los Angeles Galaxy veteran, Benzema should not have gone to Russia himself.
The 28-year-old footballer was shut out of the national team after a scandal in 2015, when he was accused of blackmailing his teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
"In my opinion, Benzema not being in the national team is not normal," Ibra told BeIN Sports. "He is one of the best in the world, he won the Champions League, he plays in Madrid. The fact that he is not in this team has nothing to do with football."
"If the coach decides that he is not good enough for this team, then the issue lies with the coach, not with Benzema. It's very simple.
"The fact that he is not here seems absurd to me, because if you want to win, you must rely on winners, and Benzema is a winner."
In the first match against Australia, the French national team barely achieved victory and did not shine in the attack.
