I.Casillas: "It was the worst game of my life" (+ other comments)

Spanish national team goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillas said after a devastating 1:5 loss to the Netherlands that it was the worst match of his career. The Real Madrid goalkeeper admitted his mistakes and urged his teammates to forget everything as soon as possible.

"Luck was definitely not on our side, especially when it comes to my performance, but we need to forget everything as soon as possible and think about how to beat Chile. We need to change our mindset, forget what happened today. We have four days to draw conclusions," - said Casillas after the match.

Let us remind you that at the beginning of the 2010 World Cup, the Spaniards also suffered a loss - 0:1 defeat to Switzerland. Yet, they still became world champions.

"We know how to accept criticism, and our supporters have the right to criticize us. I am the first one who needs to apologize to everyone," - said the goalkeeper sadly.

Spanish national team defender Xavi said after the match that it was the most painful failure of his career.

"A worse start could not have been imagined. We need to look at ourselves, be self-critical, and overcome Chile. The whole team had very bad matches," - Xavi said.

Andres Iniesta: "There is little to say when the result is like this - there is little room for analysis. We now need to think as little as possible and win the next two matches - only then will we move on to the next stage."

Sergio Ramos: "If we continue to work hard and draw conclusions, I believe this will not happen again. The strength of our team has always been that we do not lose after one defeat. It is definitely not a dream start, but we need to blame no one and think about Chile now."

Xabi Alonso: "This defeat is much more painful than the one suffered four years ago against Switzerland. The Dutch undoubtedly deserved the victory. In the first half, we kept the game in our hands, but after their goal, we opened up too much. When they scored the second time, we had to open up even more, and they used it brilliantly, creating dangerous opportunities."
