It is said that the chosen option is to allow 48 national teams to participate in the 2026 World Cup.
"My idea would be this - 16 teams would automatically enter the groups, while the remaining 32 would enter the preliminary stage. They would play in the same country where the World Cup is held and compete for the remaining 16 spots.
This means that 32 teams continue to participate in the World Cup, but a total of 48 teams are invited to the party.
