On Sunday, the Dutch national championship ended dramatically. The winner's title was defended by Eindhoven PSV with a single goal.
In the last round, Ronaldo Koeman's proteges crushed Vitesse Arnhem 5-1 and collected 75 points with a decisive positive goal difference of 50. The captain of the team, Phillip Cocu, scored the decisive goal with 13 minutes left to play.
The legendary Ajax from Amsterdam, adorned with silver medals, snatched the 75th point by winning 2-0 against Willem II Tilburg, but it wasn't enough as their goal difference was +49.
Meanwhile, the hopes of AZ Alkmaar, which were in the first place before this round, were buried by a defeat away to Excelsior Rotterdam with a score of 2-3. Most of the match AZ played with ten men, as defender Boy Waterman was sent off in the 18th minute for a last hope foul in the penalty area.
