On Sunday, one of the loudest French clubs „Saint-Etienne“ failed to secure their place in the „Ligue 1“ championship. „St. Etienne“ lost to „AJ Auxerre“ team after an 11-meter penalty shootout and will play in the second division of the country's football league next season. This outcome of the match did not sit well with the team's fans, who stormed the field after the last penalty and attacked players from both teams. Video recordings captured fans throwing flares at players trying to leave the field. It is reported that some fans ended up in the hands of the police after the incident. There have been no reports of serious player injuries so far.
