n Sunday, September 17, the remaining 2 round matches were played in the Italian championship. The leaders of the championship became the teams "Palermo" and "Roma", who won their second victories, while "Lazio" and "Fiorentina" suffered their second defeats in a row and again failed to reduce their points deficit.

The "Palermo" team unexpectedly won 2-1 away against "Lazio". The guests took the lead as early as the 10th minute, when after a pass from Fabio Simplicio, striker David Di Michele found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper of the capital team and lifted the ball over the helpless goalkeeper. The same player scored his second goal for his team half an hour later. The striker sent the ball into the goal in a similar style, but this time received the pass from Roberto Guana.

In the second half, "Lazio" desperately tried to score a goal and their pressure paid off in the 73rd minute when Tommaso Rocchi sent the ball between the legs of the goalkeeper into the goal. After eight minutes, the capital club almost equalized the score, but Mauri's shot went wide, and the Roma club, unable to equalize the score, suffered their second consecutive defeat.

The "Roma" club continued their excellent form, defeating the "Siena" team 3-1 away. In the 28th minute, the first unfortunate episode for the hosts unfolded - their player Ezio Brevi was sent off the field for a foul against an opponent.

However, all goals were scored in the second half. Just at the beginning of the second half, after receiving a pass from Simone Perrotos, Rodrigo Taddei put the capital club ahead. After 25 minutes, the victory for their team was secured by the new acquisition David Pizarro, once again beating the "Siena" goalkeeper. Although with four minutes remaining until the end of the match, the home team player Mariano Frick scored a consolation goal, any doubts about the outcome of the match were dispelled a minute later by "Roma" striker Stefano Okaka.

"Fiorentina" still remains with a 19-point deficit in the league table as they lost 0-1 away to the "Livorno" club. The hosts secured the victory with a 58th-minute goal scored by Cristiano Lucarelli from a corner kick. With six minutes remaining until the end of the match, "Fiorentina" player Manuel Pasqual was sent off the field. Lithuanian Tomas Danilevičius did not play in the match.

"Empoli" and "Chievo" shared a point in the match, which ended 1-1. The Verona club started the match well, taking the lead in the 15th minute from a corner kick. However, after three minutes, the club's situation became much more complicated - a red card was shown to the team's defender Luciano. Taking advantage of their numerical superiority, "Empoli" managed to equalize the score in the second half when Igli Vannucchi sent the ball into the goal.

After the disappointment of the first round, the "Udinese" club bounced back with a 2-0 victory at home against "Torino". In the 25th minute, Antonio Di Natale's shot was unable to be saved by the visiting goalkeeper Christian Abbiati, and the score became 1-0. Twenty minutes after the start of the second half, Udinese secured three points when the young Brazilian Felipe scored a goal.

In the match of the outsiders, "Ascoli" saved themselves from defeat against the "Messina" club in the last minutes and drew 1-1. From the 62nd minute, "Messina" led after Christiano Riggano's goal, but three minutes before the end of the match, the first goal scorer in "Serie A" Giampietro Perrulli equalized the score.

Meanwhile, the newcomer match between "Catania" and "Atalanta" ended in a boring goalless draw.

One of the favorites of the championship, "Milan" won 2-0 away against the "Parma" team. In the 25th minute of the match, the Dutchman Clarence Seedorf led his team ahead, and victory was secured with a precise shot from 11 meters from the Brazilian Kaka towards the end of the match.
