In June, the first-ever Lithuanian regions amateur selection tournament will start

The first ever Lithuanian regions' amateur team tournament will kick off at the beginning of June in our country.

Four teams will participate in the tournament, representing their counties - the VRFS (Vilnius Regional Football Association) team, a combined team from Kaunas and Marijampolė counties, as well as amateur teams from Klaipėda county and a combined team from Šiauliai and Panevėžys.

The teams will first compete in the semi-final matches, and the winners of the semi-finals will meet in the final at the Darius and Girėnas stadium in autumn.

"I am glad that the idea that has been nurtured for some time can now be implemented this year and amateur players from counties can compete for the opportunity to play in our main stadium. This is one of the main goals of this initiative - to provide conditions for amateur football players in Lithuania to compete in higher standard conditions," emphasized LFF President Edgaras Stankevičius.

According to the regulations, only players competing in the third league or lower-level championships can represent the teams in the tournament.

The tournament trophy is already at the headquarters of the Lithuanian Football Federation, and in autumn it will go to one of the teams that proves their superiority against the others.

The initiative also has its main sponsor - "Carlsberg Non-Alcoholic", so the tournament will be named "Carlsberg Non-Alcoholic Regional Amateur Team Cup".

"We highly appreciate that the company agreed to contribute to this initiative. The fact that one of the famous global brands is supporting our tournament shows that such initiatives are important and we hope that this tournament will develop into an annual tradition, attracting even more teams over time," said E. Stankevičius.

The semi-final draws of the tournament have already been made, determining the pairings for the semi-finals. Both semi-finals will be played on June 2 (Sunday).

17:00 Klaipėda FM Stadium: Klaipėda team - Šiauliai-Panevėžys team;

19:00 LFF Kauno Training Center Stadium: Kaunas-Marijampolė team - VRFS team.

The matches for third place and the final will be played in autumn, with exact dates to be confirmed later.
