On Friday, the 2023-2024 season of the LMFA Lithuanian girls' football championship began, with the first matches roaring at the Klaipėda football school stadium.

This season, 20 teams will compete in the championship, starting their journey from appearances in the South-East and North-West regional groups.

On August 25th, Klaipėda FM and Minija FA from Kretinga celebrated two victories each, while these teams played a draw against each other. Plungės FK "Babrungas" achieved a victory against Gargždai FK "Banga" peers.

The round coordinator and Klaipėda FM coach Lina Kaselytė, who watched the matches, was pleased that the girls prepared responsibly for the championship and gained even more inspiration to pursue their football dreams, watching the FIFA Women's World Cup.

"Since we returned with the girls from vacation quite early - at the beginning of August. We had 3 weeks to prepare for the first round, the girls always return relaxed and excited after vacations, so it's nice to work with them. It's especially gratifying that after the summer vacation all the girls returned to sports, there were no slack-offs or extended vacations at grandparents' homes. It's nice that the parents' attitude towards girls' football is changing - they understand that if training starts, it means they have to go and play sports," she said.

Surprisingly, the impact of the World Cup is still felt! We receive calls every day asking if it's possible to come and try football. The team watched the final over the phone before training, and the girls kept asking about the result and so on. Especially the older girls watched the FIFA Women's World Cup and discussed which team was stronger, which player stood out more, and, I think, deep down hoped to see the Lithuanian team at such a high level someday," she added.

All the statistics of the Lithuanian girls' football championship matches will be provided on the website www.lietuvosfutbolas.lt.
