On Tuesday at 22:00, the second round matches of the E-H groups in the UEFA Champions League were played.
The most unexpected result was recorded in Moscow, where local CSKA managed to defeat the three-time tournament champions, Madrid's "Real" footballers. Despite missing many leaders, the "whites" conceded an early goal and could not find a way past the opponents' defense - the Russians achieved a sensational victory with a score of 1:0.
Madrid's "Real" started the match tragically - in the 2nd minute, Toni Kroos made a mistake with a back pass, allowing Nikola Vlasic to intercept the ball and beat Keylor Navas.
Throughout the rest of the match, CSKA hardly posed any threat to K. Navas' guarded goal, with the visitors shaking their opponents' goal structure three times, but failing to score an equalizing goal. Towards the end of the match, goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev was sent off the field for his anger towards the referee.
In another match of Group G, "Roma" bounced back from their defeat in Madrid and crushed Plzen's "Viktoria" with a score of 5:0. Edin Dzeko scored three goals for the winners.
A lot of attention was drawn to the matches in Group H between "Valencia" and "Manchester United," which ended in a goalless draw. In other group matches, "Juventus" crushed "Young Boys," becoming the sole leaders of the tournament table.
In Group E, Lisbon's "Benfica" triumphed in a high-scoring and unpredictable battle with Athens' AEK with a score of 3:2. Meanwhile, Munich's "Bayern" failed to defeat Amsterdam's "Ajax" at home with a score of 1:1.
Mats Hummels put Bayern ahead in the 2nd minute, but the visitors soon equalized the score and held on until the end of the match.
In Group F, "Lyon" erased a two-goal deficit and drew 2:2 against Donetsk's "Shakhtar." Pep Guardiola's "Man City" secured their first win with a 2:1 victory over "Hoffenheim." "Lyon" currently tops the table after the second round.
