Russian football teams were forbidden to acquire Turkish football players during the January transfer window.
After a Russian military aircraft was shot down near the Syrian border by Turkish military forces, Russia began sanctions against Turkey, which now include sports.
"If anyone wanted to acquire a Turkish player in January, they would not have such an opportunity," said Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko.
However, Turkish players who are currently playing in Russian competitions will not be required to leave the country.
"All players who currently have contracts with clubs will be able to continue their work. They will not be here in the future, but at this moment their contracts will be respected and we will not violate them," Mutko added in his statement.
Currently, the only Turkish player competing in the top league in Russia is Gokdeniz Karadeniz. He belongs to the "Rubin" club. This season, the 35-year-old player has played ten matches in the Russian league.
