It could have been a deal of the century. London's "Chelsea" club offered 150 million euros to Lionel Messi's "Barcelona" team in May 2014.
This information was announced by the Catalan TV channel TV3 and the Barcelona newspaper "Sport". According to Catalan journalists, the acquisition of L. Messi was particularly desired by "Chelsea" coach Jose Mourinho.
Meanwhile, the Argentine footballer was negotiating with "Barcelona" to extend his contract until 2018. The leaders of the Catalan club rejected the English offer, which fell short of Messi's official buyout price, which was set at 250 million euros in the player's contract.
But "Chelsea's" offer influenced Messi's negotiations with "Barcelona". The Argentine's salary increased from 13 to 20 million euros per year when he extended his contract with the Catalan club.
