Vilnius MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU in the Baltic Women's Football League (BWFL) match on Saturday at the BFA Arena defeated Riga FS "Metta" players 4:0 (2:0). Lithuanian vice champions scored two goals, Karilė Liužinaitė scored one, Ana Cheminava scored one, and one goal was scored by the ball after the shot of a "Metta" player.

By the way, in their debut match in the BWFL league last year, MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU also defeated opponents from Latvia, Uolaine SK "Super Nova"-RTU team with a score of 4:0. However, this time the advantage of Žalgiris was even stronger. Just 30 seconds into the match, A. Cheminava received a pass from her teammate in front of the opponents' goal, but the "Metta" goalkeeper saved the shot. After a minute, MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU legionnaire from Georgia misled several opponents from the penalty area, but her shot was once again saved by the visitors' goalkeeper.

The Žalgiris players did not slow down, continued their attacks, and were soon rewarded for their persistence. In the 8th minute, Liana Ghazaryan broke through on the right side, made a pass into the penalty area, and Karilē Liužinaitė bypassed the "Metta" defender Fanija Mežecka and directed the ball into her own goal.

After a few minutes, the visitors were forced to pull the ball out of their net for the second time. In the 17th minute, A. Cheminava ran past four opponents, entered the penalty area, made a pass to K. Liužinaite, and the latter scored the second goal with no one stopping her.

The Latvian vice champions needed time to recover from such a tough start. Towards the end of the half, they also managed to create a few dangerous attacks, but MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU goalkeeper Meda Šeškutė prevented the opponents from scoring.

After the break, MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU head coach Vytautas Lukša introduced the team's newest member Bursa Taskin from Turkey into the game, and Canadian Jullien Ramirez also appeared on the field. In the second half, the Žalgiris players controlled the game reliably, did not allow the opponents to express themselves in attack, and created several dangerous attacks themselves.

In the 61st minute, Aristelle Yog Atouth made an impressive run and passed the ball to K. Liužinaite, but her shot was blocked by the visitors' defender from a few meters away. However, A. Cheminava, who demonstrated high individual skill in these matches, found a gap in the opponents' defense on her second attempt and scored the third goal.

A. Cheminava, who demonstrated high individual skill in these matches, had several more great opportunities in the second half, but in the 84th minute, after another accurate pass from A. Yog Atouth, K. Liužinaitė scored the fourth goal.

In the last minutes of the match, the Ryga "Metta" players could have scored a consolation goal, but Amēlija Lipšāne, who ran past M. Šeškutė, missed the goal, so the Žalgiris players started the BWFL championship with a "dry" victory of 4:0.

For the Ryga "Metta" team, this was already the fourth match in the Baltic League. On February 12, the future opponents of the Žalgiris team tested their strength with the SFK "Riga" team. The confrontation between the Latvian vice champions and champions ended in a draw of 2:2. On February 25, "Metta" lost 0:3 at home to the Tallinn "Flora" team, and on March 18, they had to admit the superiority of "Gintra" with a score of 0:2.

In the BWFL tournament, the strongest Lithuanian and Estonian teams - Šiauliai "Gintra" and Tallinn "Flora" - lead with two wins each. Saku "Sporting" and MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU have 3 points each, SFK "Riga" and "Metta" have 1 point each.
