Two of the strongest teams from the previous season in France - "Monaco" and "Paris Saint-Germain" - stepped onto the field last night. However, the balance of power has changed significantly this season.
The "Monegasques" sold some of their leaders, while PSG, along with the world's most expensive footballer Neymar, also welcomed the rival talent Kylian Mbappe.
This is reflected in the league table, where the Parisians confidently lead, while last year's champions are already in third place after a victory over "Lyon." Despite playing at home, they remained in this position even after the match with Unai Emery's players.
Just three minutes into the match, Mbappe had the chance to punish the hosts, but he missed the target. Soon after, Julian Draxler created another opportunity before Edinson Cavani finally scored after the German's pass.
At halftime, the situation for "Monaco" was not so bad, but Neymar began to show his class early in the second half. Initially, he hit the post, but in the 51st minute, he provoked a foul in the penalty area by Almamy Toure and converted the penalty himself.
Despite several opportunities missed by Mbappe and Cavani, the goal scored by substitute Joao Moutinho gave hope to the opponents. However, they could not equalize anymore.
With three points added to their tally, PSG now leads "Monaco" by nine points.
Result:
"Monaco" 1 - 2 "Paris Saint-Germain"
[0-1] 31' Edinson Cavani
[0-2] 52' Neymar (from the penalty spot)
[1-2] 81' Joao Moutinho
