After a break following two matches in the Baltic Cup tournament, the Lithuanian national football team started preparing for the last summer friendly matches. Our neighbors will be the Polish national team in Gdansk on Friday.
Returning from Latvia on Tuesday, Lithuanian footballers gathered in Kaunas and trained in the evening at the S. Darius and S. Girėnas sports center stadium.
There have been several changes in the Lithuanian team lineup after the Baltic Cup tournament. Defender Aurimas Vilkaitis joined the U-21 national team, which will play European Championship qualification matches against Moldova in Vilnius on Thursday. Saugas Arvydas Novikovas will not travel to Poland for family reasons. The team also said goodbye to Tadas Eliošius and Mindaugas Kalonas.
Three players have joined the team who were unable to come earlier due to their clubs' participation in national championships - Mantas Kuklys who finished the season in the Czech Republic and Gediminas Vičius and Vytautas Andriuškevičius who had breaks in Kazakhstan and Sweden.
Andriuškevičius, who played in the Polish league, commented on the upcoming match with the Polish national team: "Players in the Polish team come from the best clubs, although few play in the country's championship. The Poles have not beaten us in recent times, so it will be a strong lineup and they will be supported by the fans."
Kuklys added: "The match with neighbors is crucial. In such matches, you want to prove that you are not inferior. However, we will play away and the opponents have assembled the best squad, so it will be very difficult. We will be able to rely on team play and fighting spirit."
The match between the Polish and Lithuanian national teams will take place on June 6 at 18:30 our time. The match will be available to watch live online on DELFI.lt and Futbolo.TV websites.
