Newly appointed assistant coach of the England national team is former coach of this country Terry Venables.

T.Venables led the national England team for two years and helped them reach the semi-finals of the 1996 European Championship, but the coach says he is eager to work with the rejuvenated team.

"It's obviously different from what it was a decade ago," Venables says. "I can give my experience and leadership qualities to Steve and thus facilitate the entire work process. I think both of us, along with the rest of the staff, have great chances to move forward.

"I'm definitely not going to compete. I'm preparing to help Steve. We will maintain a great balance. I will tell him everything openly, but he will make all the decisions himself. He is the head coach," Venables says.

McClaren himself is also delighted to work with T.Venables.

"To win as a team means having a good team around you, good people. I wanted someone tactically astute, with a good understanding of football, who could provide the best advice. I wanted someone with experience at this level, from whom players could learn something and respect him. I am pleased to have Terry Venables," McClaren says.
