The Italian national team became the first among the participants of the European Championship to secure a place in the knockout stages. In order to achieve this goal, Roberto Mancini's players had to defeat Switzerland at the Rome stadium, and the Italians did so confidently. Winning 3-0 against one of the favorites of the tournament even before the last match in Group A, Italy can rejoice in a ticket to the quarterfinals. The hosts of the match dominated from the very first minutes, and defender G. Chiellini's goal was disallowed due to handball. In the 26th minute, the first goal of the match was scored when M. Locatelli finished D. Berardi's pass. At the beginning of the second half, the same M. Locatelli doubled the lead with an excellent long-range shot - 2-0. The scoring in the match was completed by striker C. Immobile, who saddened Y. Sommer with a powerful shot as if fired from a cannon.
