The German Cup, also known as DFB Pokal, faces a new history this season.
On Wednesday, "Saarbrucken" defeated Menchengladbach's "Borussia" 2:1 in the quarterfinals and created an unprecedented situation.
Only one team from the first division, Bundesliga, reached the semifinals - Leverkusen's "Bayer," which has never happened before in the history of the German Cup. The remaining three teams are from lower divisions.
Other than the defending Bundesliga champions Dusseldorf's "Fortuna," the other teams they will face are the legendary "Kaiserslautern" and the aforementioned "Saarbrucken" team.
By the way, this is the second semifinal in 5 years for the "Saarbrucken" team. In 2020, they lost 0:3 to the "Bayer" team in the semifinals. The third division team currently occupies the 9th place in the "3 Liga" championship.
Leverkusen club has a real chance to compete for the "double" or even the "treble" this season and win their first trophies since 1993.
