The Italian national team received bad news - Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti will have to miss up to eight weeks due to an upcoming knee surgery. The 23-year-old footballer returned to the field two weeks ago after a two-month injury, but suffered a serious injury once again. This means that the Italian will not only miss the rest of the season with PSG, but also the 2016 European Championship.
"PSG and Marco Verratti have agreed to perform knee surgery, as he has been suffering from pain for the past few weeks. The operation will take place on May 16th in Doha. It is believed that the footballer will need up to eight weeks to fully recover," PSG wrote.
The absence of PSG player is particularly painful for the Italian national team, as Juventus goalkeeper Claudio Marchisio will also have to miss the 2016 European Championship.
This season, M. Verratti has played 28 matches for the Parisian team.
