Today (Saturday) the matches of the 28th round of the "A League" were played, in which all the favorites who played away celebrated victories.
In the capital, the current champion of the championship, Panevezys "Ekranas", won a narrow victory over the "Vilnius" team. The only goal of the match in the 65th minute was scored by the most productive player in the "A League", Mantas Saveinas.
On the other hand, the team in second place, "Kaunas", had a much tougher match: they managed to snatch a victory away in extra time against the resurging "Siauliai" with a score of 3-2. Kaunas took the lead in the second minute of the match in Siauliai when the goal was scored by the Bosnian and Herzegovinian legionnaire Edin Pehlic.
In the first half, the former "Kaunas" player Gintaras Juodeikis equalized with a goal. In the second half, the visitors took the lead again through Arturas Rimkevicius, but at the end of regulation time, the most prolific player of "Siauliai", Gediminas Butavicius, equalized the score for the second time. However, the residents of Siauliai were unable to take points away from the multiple Lithuanian champions - a dramatic victory was snatched by Kaunas after Nerijus Maciulis appeared on the field after a substitution.
Another victory was achieved by the very successful Marijampole "Suduva" team playing recently. This time, led by the second most productive player in the "A League", Tomas Radzinevicius, they defeated "Atlantas" in Klaipeda with a score of 3-1. Radzinevicius scored two goals for Marijampole, while Mantas Uselis added one, and Vitalijus Gussevas, recently borrowed from "Kaunas", softened the score at the end of the match.
Vilnius "Zalgiris" achieved a minimal victory in dramatic matches away against "Silute" - the only goal was scored by Igor Morinas moments before the final whistle, breaking the recent unsuccessful streak of the capital club and revitalizing hopes for higher places.
Fierce matches took place in Kaunas, where "Nevezis" from Kedainiai tried to resist against Vilnius "Vetra", who is vying for the bronze in the championship. However, an active game forced the Kedainiai team to finish the match playing with nine players - Modestas Petrusevicius and Andrius Klimakovas were both sent off with red cards from the field. The first goal of the match, which ended with a 2-0 score, was scored by Igoris Stesko from the penalty spot, and the second was scored by Sarunas Litvinas.
