In the Lithuanian "A Lyga" championship on Wednesday, postponed matches from the 23rd round were played, where the championship leader Panevėžio "Ekranas" met Klaipėdos "Atlantas" who are trying not to fall behind the leaders.
Panevėžys "Aukštaitija" stadium, 752 spectators 1 - 2 20' [0 - 1] Donatas Navikas 40' [0 - 2] Aleksandr Veseljev 64' [1 - 2] Vitalijus Kavaliauskas
"Ekranas": Skrupskis (46' Grybauskas); Klimavičius, Banevičius, Paulauskas, Skroblas; Savėnas, Kučys, Tomkevičius (46' Petrauskas), Gardzijauskas; Kavaliauskas, Lukšys (78' Mižigurskis)
"Atlantas": Valius; Deveika, Šarūnas, Žukauskas, Maciulevičius; Petreikis, Žernys, Navikas, Veseljev (87' Pioch); Laurišas, Trakys (76' Tautvydas)
"Ekranas" had not lost a single point in the first round, but recently their game has not been very good, and quite unexpectedly, the visitors from Klaipėda forced them to experience their first failure on their home ground.
"Atlantas", who lost to "Vilnius" in the previous round, this time started the match successfully at the "Aukštaitija" stadium and broke through in the 20th minute after D. Navikas' goal, and A. Veseljev doubled the lead 5 minutes before the end of the first half.
Nevertheless, "Ekranas" did not give up and in the 64th minute V. Kavaliauskas managed to reduce the visitor's lead, but that was not enough for the Panevėžys team and they had to admit defeat, ending their nine-game winning streak.
"Kaunas" can be happy with this result, as they are now six points behind the leader, while "Atlantas" moved up to third place, overtaking "Vėtra" who has played fewer games. The next 10th round of "A Lyga" matches will be played in a week, on May 24th.
