Former assistant of Louis van Gaal Gerard van der Lem revealed that in the past the Dutchman could have taken over the wheel of Madrid's "Real", but rejected the offer.
"In 1997, he was offered contracts by both "Barcelona" and the capital club of Spain.
Then Louis asked me what I would suggest he choose. I replied, 'Barcelona'."
"Madrid is in the middle of the country, very hot in summer, and impossible to bear the cold in winter. Meanwhile, Barcelona's climate is much better, the city is more beautiful, and I like the sea," said van der Lem.
"After listening, Louis assured me that he would start negotiations with the Catalans," the assistant insisted.
