During the festive days in the English Premier League, stadiums heat up from battles, while footballers of other European championship teams rest with their families.
However, this complex schedule may change: according to Sky Sports, the Premier League is inclined to implement a plan that would introduce a two-week break in the competition starting in 2020.
After the implementation of this plan, the entire season schedule would essentially change. It is stated that Premier League matches would be played every weekend throughout the season. Additionally, there would no longer be as many matches on one weekend - instead, each week five matches would take place on non-working days.
The break certainly will not apply to the English League Cup. The latter immediately stated that there are too many matches, so they have no chance of creating a schedule where teams could rest.
The final decision now depends on the FA, which also organizes the cup tournament. It is expected that the FA will make a decision so that all fifth round matches take place in the middle of the week and there would be no possibility of replaying matches - in case of a draw, the teams would go to extra time and/or penalty shootout.
