On Saturday, the 2018-19 football season came to an end. It was closed with the UEFA Champions League final match in Madrid.
UEFA announced the best 20 football players who made it into the team of the year. The list includes two goalkeepers, five defenders, six midfielders, and seven attacking players.
Alisson ("Liverpool") and Marc-Andre ter Stegen ("Barcelona") were recognized as the best goalkeepers. The five defenders are Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold (all from "Liverpool"), as well as Matthijs de Ligt ("Ajax") and Jan Vertonghen ("Tottenham").
The six midfielders selected for the team of the season are Frenkie de Jong, Hakim Ziyech (both from "Ajax"), Tanguy Ndombele ("Lyon"), Georginio Wijnaldum ("Liverpool"), Kevin de Bruyne ("Man City"), and Moussa Sissoko ("Tottenham").
The attacking positions are filled by names like Lionel Messi ("Barcelona"), Cristiano Ronaldo ("Juventus"), Raheem Sterling ("Man City"), Sadio Mane ("Liverpool"), Lucas Moura ("Tottenham"), Dusan Tadic, and David Neres (both from "Ajax").
This 20-man squad was selected by independent UEFA observers.
