The International European Football Organization UEFA officially announced that a minute of silence will be observed in all UEFA tournament matches during this week to honor the memory of the deceased Argentinian footballer Emiliano Sala, lrt.lt reports.
Just recently transferred from France's "Nantes" to England's "Cardiff City," the 28-year-old forward died on January 21 when a small plane, carrying only the footballer and pilot David Ibbotson, crashed over the English Channel. The plane was flying from Nantes to Cardiff. The footballer's body was found and identified on February 7. The pilot's remains have not yet been found.
"On behalf of all UEFA member organizations, I want to express deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of E. Sala due to this tragic loss," UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin is quoted as saying. "It is very sad that the life of such a young person was taken so cruelly. I urge all European football fans to honor the memory of the footballer in the coming days."
This week, players participating in UEFA tournaments will be able to pay tribute to the memory of the deceased E. Sala by wearing black mourning armbands.
