Milan's "Internazionale" team veteran Javier Zanetti confirmed that this season will be his last in professional football.

The 40-year-old Argentine suffered a serious injury last season, after which he struggled to regain his starting position in the team.

"Ending a career at 40 is unique. I am proud of myself, this is the right moment to step down," said the "Nerazzurri" captain.

"After the injury I suffered last season, I wanted to come back and prove that I can still play at the highest level, and I managed to do it."

"I dreamed of finishing my career at the 'Inter' club. This is my home and beyond the field, I will try to be as helpful as I am on the field."

"I will become the sports director. This will be a new challenge. I am ready to learn a lot," assured J. Zanetti.

J. Zanetti moved to "Inter" in 1995 and has played 800 matches in the ranks of the Milan team.
