The head coach of the Lithuanian national team, Igoris Pankratjevas, was not disappointed after the draw for the 2016 European Championship qualifiers and stated that it would be difficult in any case in all groups.
"I can't say that the draw disappointed me. However, in my opinion, it's not so important which group you end up in. In any case, everything needs to be proven on the field, no team can be underestimated.
It will be interesting to meet new opponents - England, Switzerland, Slovenia. We haven't played against the English team at all, only between the wars with the Swiss, and we haven't faced the Slovenians in a long time. We will have the opportunity to see Switzerland at the World Cup, but after that, the team will have a new coach, so a lot can change.
The Estonian team has significantly improved in recent years. Beating our neighbors will be a matter of principle. Playing against San Marino will not be easy - we can remember how a decade ago we barely won away with a score of 1:0.
The advantage of this group is that there won't be long journeys, which will help us prepare better for the away matches. We will start observing our opponents from the very first days. In early March, one of our staff members will go to watch the matches," the strategist said.
Furthermore, the 49-year-old I. Pankratjevas was satisfied with the draw ceremony and admitted that it was his first time participating in such a ceremony.
"The ceremony was really interesting and exciting - a truly big football celebration. It was my first time participating in such an event. I met famous football personalities and familiar football people," the Lithuanian concluded.
Just a reminder, the EURO 2016 qualifiers will begin on September 7th of this year.
