The Croatian national team failed to save themselves in the European Championship.
After a lackluster performance in the first two matches, Z. Dalic's team played 1-1 with the Italian team and is unlikely to even qualify for the knockout stages as the third team in the group.
The Croats took the initiative early in the match - G. Donnarumma had to save the team after a long-range shot by L. Sucic.
The Italians tried to respond with a shot from M. Retegui, but the result did not change.
In the 54th minute, after a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty for handball by the Italian player, but G. Donnarumma saved L. Modric's shot. However, the Croatian legend soon corrected his mistake and in the next attack accurately repeated his released ball - 1:0.
Disappointed Italians tried to at least equalize the score, but M. Bastoni and G. Raspadori missed the target.
Nevertheless, the team defending the European champions title did not give up. In the last seconds of the referee's added time, M. Zaccagni scored a goal and secured the Italians the second place in Group B.
