The Ivory Coast national football team won 3-1 (2-1) against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final held on Wednesday and reached the final. This is the third final for the Ivory Coast team in the last six tournaments.
In the quarter-finals, after defeating one of the best teams in the tournament, Algeria, the Ivory Coast footballers continue to justify the favorites tag.
"Manchester City" goalkeeper Yaya Toure put the Ivory Coast ahead in the 21st minute, but a few minutes later Dieumerci Mbokani scored a penalty from 11 meters, leveling the score again.
However, just before half-time, in the 41st minute, one of the leaders of the "Roma" club, Gervinho, put the "Elephants" ahead. At the end of the match, Wilfried Kanon's goal in the 68th minute secured the victory.
The Ivory Coast's opponent in the final will be determined after the hosts Equatorial Guinea and Ghana face off in the other semi-final.
The "Elephants" played in the Africa Cup of Nations final in 2006 and 2012, but lost both times. The only time the Ivory Coast footballers became champions was in 1992.
