Former "Liverpool" defender Jamie Carragher urged London's "Arsenal" manager Arsene Wenger to acquire a midfielder during the winter transfer window.
The "Gunners" have shown great interest in 25-year-old "Southampton" leader Morgan Schneiderlin, but the Frenchman recently announced that he will remain with the "Saints" at least until the summer.
On Thursday, Goal.com revealed that the London team is very close to completing a deal for young Polish player Kamil Bielik, but Carragher believes that "Gunners" need a more experienced player.
"They need a defensive midfielder," the Englishman told Sky Sports. "In that position, the first choice was Mikel Arteta, but he was never seen lacking in that role. In the ranks of 'Everton', he had opportunities to create security for his teammates."
"Coquelin was wonderful alongside 'Manchester City', but the question arises: is he a long-term solution to the problem? We will see how he performs for the rest of the season."
"They need to acquire someone else for this position. I don't think Coquelin has done enough to consider the Arsenal midfield line as strong."
