Joao Felix, who cost Atletico Madrid 126 million euros, indirectly admitted that he made a mistake by leaving Benfica in Lisbon so early.
The rising Portuguese football star shone in the second half of last year, but even a good half-year was enough for Atletico to pay a record amount for him.
J. Felix's career stage in the Spanish capital is not unfolding as expected - he scored four goals and made one assist in 19 matches.
"Now I understand how lucky I was playing for Benfica," the player said in an interview with his country's media. "I plan to return one day and leave a stronger mark in this club."
In the last season, J. Felix was most impressed by his hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League match against Eintracht Frankfurt.
"After the third goal, I cried. I felt tense before the match. Two days before the game, I heard comments in the locker room that really didn't help me.
I went to the bathroom and just started crying. No one understood how much this hat-trick meant to me," added the Portuguese player.
