Madrid's "Atletico" announced that they have signed a new five-year contract with Jose Gimenez.
Until now, the center-back had his future with the club tied until 2020, but now he will stay with the "mattresses" for three more years.
This should put an end to talks about the Uruguayan's further career, as recent reports suggested that he was being courted by "Manchester United" and Madrid's "Real."
"I am very happy. I thank the club for the trust they have placed in me," Gimenez said in his statement.
"Since I arrived at this club, I have grown a lot. We have won titles, established ourselves among the strongest in Europe, opened an impressive stadium, and continuing to be part of this excellent project is an honor," he added.
"We have a fantastic group of people, who have been the most important since my arrival. I feel at home, so I want to continue to give my all to thank them for the trust they have placed in me," he concluded.
Since arriving from "Danubio," Gimenez has played 134 matches with "Atletico" and has become a strong member of the starting lineup.
