The "Reds" have only 10 points after 8 rounds, while the "Citizens" seem even stronger after adding Norwegian phenomenon Erling Haaland to the team. They have 23 points in their tally after 9 matches in the English top flight.
Before the Sunday match, "Liverpool" manager Jurgen Klopp was asked by journalists about the different financial capabilities of the clubs.
"No one can compete with Manchester City. You have the best team in the world, then you buy the best forward in the market, regardless of his price," Klopp said.
"I know that Man City won't like these words, but you asked a question and you know the answer. We can't afford as much as they can," the German replied to the journalist's question.
"Newcastle United also have no ceilings. Congratulations. Some other clubs have ceilings," the manager mentioned Newcastle as an example.
