Despite the fact that Liverpool board member Tom Werner admitted that the club had long admired coach Jurgen Klopp, the strategist's agent Marc Kosicke claims that the German had not received any offer until Brendan Rodgers was fired.
The former Reds manager from Northern Ireland was sacked after a draw in the Liverpool derby against Everton, and Klopp replaced him four days later.
"Liverpool first contacted after parting ways with coach Brendan Rodgers," Kosicke told Bild.
"Before Liverpool, of course, there were also several conversations. However, Jurgen asked me not to engage in further negotiations."
The new Merseyside team strategist is coming to England after seven successful seasons leading Borussia Dortmund, with which he managed to win two Bundesliga titles, one German Cup, and reach the UEFA Champions League final once.
