Although the later course of the season showed that Julen Lopetegui was not the only reason why Madrid's "Real" suffered so many defeats, the Spaniard believes that his career at this club could have been much more successful.
J. Lopetegui, who was dismissed from his duties as head coach of the Spanish national team just before the start of the World Cup after reaching an agreement with "Real," did not enjoy a long stay with the Madrid team - he was shown the door on October 29th.
Remembering the start of the season within the "Real" ranks, J. Lopetegui claims that the team showed excellent play at the very beginning, but a few ungrateful matches, which later turned into a whole series, ruined his further goals.
"We had a really good start to the season, with some excellent matches," said J. Lopetegui. "Later, we entered an unsuccessful three-week period in which we faced problems in attack. In most of those matches, we were better than our opponents, but our performance ultimately ended in failure. These things can happen to any team.
"We thought we would still have time, especially because the whole team was still united and willing to change the situation," added the unemployed strategist.
