German national team strategist Joachim Low insists that he does not intend to change his views and will continue to allow Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm to play in the midfield.
Due to this decision, the 54-year-old strategist, like Bayern team coach Pep Guardiola, has faced criticism, but the specialist himself claims that he has made this tactical decision for the entire World Cup and does not intend to change it.
"I have made decisions that include Lahm's position and I will stick to them until the end. Lahm will play as a defender only in critical situations, but it is better to avoid such situations," Low said.
"We have several players in our squad who can play in multiple positions and their quality of play will not diminish. It is important to understand that there will always be discussions about which players are playing in matches and which are not."
Low also waved off any criticism of midfielder Mesut Ozil.
"Such intense criticism is incomprehensible to me. The same goes for Lahm. Ozil was a standout figure in the team in 2010 and 2012. I cannot forget that. I always have faith in my players, even if they are not in their best form."
Speaking about the team's performance, Low said: "Should I be disappointed that we made it to the quarterfinals? We made too many simple mistakes and lost possession too often. It is impossible to play perfectly in every match at the World Cup, but we need to win and we did that."
In the quarterfinals, the German team will face the French, who defeated the Nigerian footballers in the round of 16.
