Regardless of the unstable start of the season, Inter's defender Joao Mario believes in the team's chances to fight for the Serie A champion title in Milan.
So far, only the "Nerazzurri" have managed to defeat last year's champions Juventus from Turin, but then there were draws with Bologna and a loss to Roma.
Currently, the team from the "fashion capital" is seven points behind Juventus and occupies the ninth place in the standings.
"I think it's normal for a team like Inter, which is going through a period of development, to have difficult times, as it is right now," Mario told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Often in matches, we let our opponents take the lead, which shouldn't happen, because reaching the Champions League or winning something while constantly falling behind is difficult."
"I really don't think Inter has already withdrawn from the race for the Scudetto. It's true that Juventus, who have won the last five titles, is very strong and had a good start to the season."
"Our main goal is to reach the Champions League, because it is clear that a team like Inter must be in the most prestigious tournament."
"Then, if we can secure this position, we will be close enough to the top to fight for the Scudetto. We will be sure that we are ready for the final sprint."
