Former "Barcelona" defender Jeremy Mathieu believes that Neymar left the Catalan club because he did not want to stay in Lionel Messi's shadow.
The Brazilian national team star moved to "Paris Saint-Germain" for a record 222 million euros and started the new season impressively.
Interestingly, the 25-year-old footballer claimed that new challenges attracted him to France. However, his former teammate disagrees.
"People never thought he could leave 'Barça'," Mathieu told EFE. "However, this is football, everything is just like that... that's his decision."
"I believe he left 'Barça' because he was behind Leo. I think he wants to win the 'Ballon d'Or' and at the moment he is happy in Paris, scoring goals."
In his first six matches with PSG, Neymar scored five goals and provided five assists.
