Joel Matip will not have to look for a new club next summer - the 28-year-old center-back has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool.
In 2016, the Cameroonian joined Liverpool as a free agent with a contract valid until the end of the season. However, it was only a matter of time before the defender extended his cooperation with the Reds.
"It is a huge honor to be in this club," Matip said. "You feel happy when you hear people saying that you have to compete here and beyond."
"Everyone knows what a big club Liverpool is, but you realize it even better when you become a part of it. You can feel the support of the fans anywhere in the world," the African player added.
Matip has already played 107 matches and scored five goals in the ranks of the Reds.
Since last season, Matip and Virgil van Dijk have formed one of the most powerful center-back pairs in the world.
