On Sunday evening in the English Premier League, a 1-1 draw was recorded between London's Chelsea and Manchester United. After the match, Chelsea's coach Jose Mourinho complained about referee Phil Dowd's work.
The referee showed a second yellow card to Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during added time. Earlier, he had ignored the footballer's complaints about Chris Smalling's foul in the first half.
After losing a player, Robin van Persie equalized the result for Chelsea.
After the match, J. Mourinho refused to comment on Ivanovic's sending off the field, but stated that the referee made quite a few mistakes: "I don't want to talk about the second yellow card. But he made mistakes in giving out cards or not giving them when needed."
Chelsea remains in first place in the standings and has a four-point lead over their closest rivals. Mourinho doesn't see this as a big advantage: "Now we have little room for our or the referees' mistakes."
J. Mourinho also praised Didier Drogba and the entire team's performance.
Meanwhile, Manchester United's coach Louis van Gaal believes his team deserved the draw: "We deserved a goal. I think Jose Mourinho also understands that."
