"Manchester United" coach Jose Mourinho says he understands Arsene Wenger and hopes he will stay in his job at London's "Arsenal" club.
Portugal has not always agreed with the "gunners" manager, and in the past has even given him the nickname "specialist in failures."
However, the 54-year-old strategist believes that his colleague still deserves more respect than he currently receives.
"I sympathize with all the other coaches because we all experience the same pain. Everyone," Mourinho said.
"Football has changed. Now it's a game where coaches can't stay in their position for a long time."
"Football now means that if you don't achieve success, you're gone. So yes, I feel bad for other coaches. When you're at a club for 20 years, it's impossible to be successful every season. Even Sir Alex (Ferguson - ed. note) will tell you the same thing."
"The truth is, I hope Wenger will keep his job at Arsenal. Definitely. I hope the club trusts that he can improve the situation. I think Arsene is probably the last example of such a coach who brought stability to a club over such a long time.
"Sir Alex was the same at United and he could leave (his post) when he knew it was time. I hope the same will happen with Wenger. Why not?"
These two strategists will come face to face today, as at 18:30 Lithuanian time, "Manchester United" will face London's "Arsenal".
