Coach Jose Mourinho said that his team will not try to acquire team captain Steven Gerrard during this upcoming transfer window. However, the coach did not rule out the possibility of trying to attract the 24-year-old midfielder next summer.
"He's a player that I admire," Mourinho said. "I think 'Liverpool' is very fortunate to have such a fantastic player, but the winter transfer market is closed for us." He later added that summer is too far away to consider a possible purchase.
Meanwhile, "Liverpool" strategist from Spain Rafael Benitez assured that one of the best midfielders in the world, S.Gerrard, will remain in his team for a long time.
"When you're a team coach, you always think that your players are the best in the world," the Spaniard said. "Steven is the best for me. He is a very good player and still has potential. If he continues to work like this, he will be even better."
This summer, rumors are circulating that S.Gerrard could join "Chelsea" or Madrid for about 30 million pounds. However, Gerrard himself later denied the rumors, stating that he does not want to leave his childhood club.
