Jose Mourinho believed that society should stop comparing the current and former "Manchester United" club.
According to the Portuguese, "Manchester United", like other big clubs, have lost their power in the player transfer market. Previously, it was easy to get top-class players from London's "Tottenham", but now it's practically impossible.
"Now it is much harder to acquire high-level footballers," J. Mourinho said at a press conference.
"Previously, smaller clubs used to almost 'force' their players onto bigger footballing names: 'Take our players, we need to sell them'.
"I know we have to do a better job in the transfer market, but there is one exception - we can no longer compare ourselves to the 'Manchester United' of the past. It's simply impossible," J. Mourinho spoke.
J. Mourinho used the example of "Tottenham" not coincidentally. For example, in 2006, they easily filled Roy Keane's place with Michael Carrick, who was a defender at the time, and two years later, they got the main team star Dimitar Berbatov for 30 million pounds.
"Looking at history, 'Manchester United' is a bigger club than 'Tottenham', right? It's a wonderful club, but I think everyone would say the same as I did.
"But can we now acquire 'Tottenham' players? No. Football has changed. Do we have a chance to attract players like Kane, Alli, Eriksen, and Son? The answer is no.
So, who has more power now - them or us?" J. Mourinho finished his sentence with this question.
