Chile's national team strategist Jorge Sampaoli says that Alexis Sanchez's converted penalty kick, which ultimately sealed the victory in the Copa America final, gave him a lot of good emotions.
The tournament hosts triumphed 4-1 after a goalless main and extra time, all crowned by the Arsenal leader's Panenka-style strike.
"Alexis' penalty gave me incredible joy," Sampaoli did not hide his emotions at the press conference. "These players did a great job."
"Throughout the tournament, I didn't see a single situation that made me think Chile wasn't better than their opponents."
"In addition to being the first Copa America trophy, this is generally the first title of this generation, considered the best in the country's history."
"I want to enjoy this moment with the players. Winning Copa America here, in Chile, with people filled with euphoria... I want to thank my footballers for allowing me to be part of all this."
The 55-year-old specialist also said that Chile outperformed Argentina during the main match time. According to Sampaoli, his players were more dangerous in attack.
