On Friday evening, the future of former Dutch national team defender Jaap Stam was finally decided - it was officially announced that the experienced player, who wanted to return to his homeland, will move to Amsterdam this summer and represent the team next season.
33-year-old J. Stam has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to the Netherlands in the last few months. Although Eindhoven's "PSV" club was considered the favorite to re-sign him, the player, after his contract with "Milan" expired, will sign a two-year contract with another top Dutch club, "Ajax," in July.
"Stam is a player with a lot of experience who has represented several strong clubs. It is believed that he will help strengthen our young and talented team," said "Ajax" director Martin van Geel.
Having represented the Dutch national team 67 times, J. Stam started his career at "Zwolle," "Cambuur," "Willem II," and Eindhoven's "PSV" before moving to "Man Utd." In 2001, he was unexpectedly sold to Rome's "Lazio," and after three years with that team, he joined "Milan." This season, the Dutchman played 23 matches for Milan and scored one goal.
