“Kaunas Žalgiris” hall football team successfully finished the Futsal A League season and became Lithuanian hall football champions for the seventh time in a row. Throughout this season, the team played flawlessly in Lithuania: they achieved 35 victories, played one game to a draw, and suffered only one loss.
“Kaunas Žalgiris” futsal team captain Justinas Zagurskas mentioned that the team's style of play and strategy have not changed for several years. The team is coached by the head coach Dentinho, who, according to the team captain, has his own style of play, plan, and perspective, and the footballers complement all of that with their work.
“During the season, the team improved and grew together, but at the same time, each player improved individually. The team's form fluctuated during the season, which is natural, but in the final matches, we demonstrated our best form,” said J. Zagurskas.
Midway through the season, “Kaunas Žalgiris” futsal team had to say goodbye to several team legionnaires, but the country's champions also welcomed newcomers who quickly adjusted to the team.
“The players who joined in the middle of the season adapted very quickly, so the loss of a few players did not cause many problems. The contribution of newcomers to the team is really significant, although they only joined during the season,” J. Zagurskas spoke about the team's changes.
“Kaunas Žalgiris” hall football club manager Darius Gurskis mentioned that this season was very long and difficult for the team: “Despite all the difficulties, the season was very successful due to all the victories and trophies won. This season is also notable because we finally returned to our home – Kaunas sports hall.”
According to the captain of Žalgiris, this season was excellent for the team. The Kaunas team defended their title of champions, regained the country's cup, also won the LFF Futsal Supercup. “Kaunas Žalgiris” also competed in the UEFA Futsal Champions League. Here the team defeated the champions of Finland and Latvia in the main stage, but lost to the vice-champions of Italy and did not advance to the Elite stage.
“All matches were important for the team, but all crucial matches for trophies were the most memorable. It’s a pity we didn’t make it to the Elite stage of the Champions League. The success of this season and the high level of performance in the team are the fruits of the work of all players and coaches during training,” said a team player.
“Kaunas Žalgiris” futsal team has been led by coach Dentinho for two years. In February, it was announced that Dentinho would not leave his position as the team's coach for another two years. According to J. Zagurskas, the work of the team's leader in training and during matches greatly contributes to high team results.
“Coach Dentinho is a source of positivity in our team. He always motivates us, and it is very felt during training. I think he has contributed to the improvement of each player in this season,” said a member of the Lithuanian national team.
“Kaunas Žalgiris” hall football team played the final Futsal A League matches at the Kaunas sports hall. Supported by a large crowd, Žalgiris faced Jonava’s “Vikings” team in the final series playing until three victories. However, the final series favored the Kaunas team, and after three secure victories, “Kaunas Žalgiris” futsal team defended the champions' title.
The captain of Žalgiris mentioned that the team was very focused and motivated throughout the final series: “There was a great accumulation of concentration in the training process before the final matches. I think that accumulation transferred to the matches, we all knew what we were fighting for, so there were no other thoughts,” J. Zagurskas spoke about the team's mindset for the final series.
“Kaunas Žalgiris” futsal club manager mentioned that the team's goals would remain the same in the next season. After the final whistle of this season's matches, the team has already started thinking about the next season, where they will try to focus more on the Champions League.
“We want to express a big thank you to all our supporters, without whom our team wouldn’t exist. We hope that with this futsal season, we contributed to improving the image of Kaunas city,” said the “Kaunas Žalgiris” futsal manager D. Gurskis.
