Jan Vertonghen is returning to play in his homeland as he approaches the end of his career. Brussels' Anderlecht officially announced that they have acquired the 35-year-old center-back for free from Benfica in Lisbon. J. Vertonghen spent the best years of his career at Tottenham from 2012 to 2020. Before that, the defender played for Ajax. Anderlecht will compete in the Conference League this season. Interestingly, in the decisive qualifying stage of the Conference League, the Brussels team eliminated another former Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld's team Royal Antwerp.
