The coach of last season's UEFA Cup finalist club, Jose Anigo, announced today that he is stepping down from the position of head coach.
For now, the club will be temporarily led by former assistants Albert Emon and Jean-Philippe Durandas. The 51-year-old Emon previously coached "Marseille" during the 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 seasons.
This season has been very unsuccessful for the "Marseille" team so far. Considered one of the favorites to win "Ligue 1" before the start of the season, the club dropped to 7th place on the table after a 0-2 loss to the underdog in the last round. "Marseille" also exited the French Cup tournament, losing to a struggling team from the capital.
Anigo took over as head coach of "Marseille" only in February, replacing Alain Perrin. Although he didn't have enough time to secure a place in European competitions for his team this season, he did lead the club to the UEFA Cup final, where they had to admit the superiority of the Spanish champions with a 0-2 defeat.
